New sports group has star power
Although a new student group at La Salle is called Explorer Entourage, students should be warned that they won’t be seeing Jeremy Piven, Adrian Grenier or Matt Dillon strolling around campus anytime soon. A take-off on the widely popular HBO program, Explorer Entourage is La Salle Athletics’ newest student fan group. The brainchild of Promotions Coordinator Stash Graham and Assistant Director of Athletic Advancement Matt Gionta, Explorer Entourage was created to formulate a new identity for the La Salle athletics fan. “Our goal was to get students to join and be part of a group that they could identify with,” Graham said. The group’s logo was designed to tie together the show and the group. The star featured in the middle of the “O” of Entourage’s logo has been replaced with a basketball. Gold T-shirts sporting the logo can already be spotted on campus. Spreading the word about Explorer Entourage began in October via the mylasalle portal and table tents, among other means of getting the name known. “Now that the word is out, we are receiving e-mails all the time about the group, how they can help out and how to join,” Graham said. For being such a new presence on campus, response to the creation of such a group has been tremendous and highly supportive. According to Graham, 330 new members have joined the group in less than two days. “We are very excited with the group and the response we have gotten. When we planned out this concept, we did not expect this,” he said. With the basketball season quickly approaching, more information will be made available about Explorer Entourage soon. mcglonel1@lasalle.edu |
