9/11 commemorative exhibit on display at La Salle

In order to commemorate the fifth year anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Associated Press created a 9/11 exhibit and chose sites to place it in throughout the country. La Salle was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the sites. The exhibit will be open to the public in the Olney Hall lobby from Oct. 6-10 from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.

The multimedia exhibit consists of four large panels, roughly 16 feet wide and eight feet tall, showing images and photos of the attacks and aftermath of 9/11. Each picture that was shot in 2001 was then retaken in the same spot by the same photographer in 2005.

In addition to the photos, a video will be running in which AP journalists discuss and describe what it was like to capture the scene and how covering 9/11 affected them personally. Journalist Jennifer Lynne, who covered the day’s events for the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2001, will attend the exhibit at La Salle.

The Associated Press said that the “exhibit pays tribute to the dedication and courage of all journalists who face risks in doing their jobs.”

Communication Department Chair Dr. Lynne Texter helped La Salle obtain the exhibit after being approached by the Associated Press. She believed the University would be a good place to display the presentation since AP President Tom Curley is a La Salle graduate, and the Communication Department has recently created a journalism track.

While Texter arranged for the display, Coordinator of Multimedia Services Michael Shinn is responsible for overseeing the running of the exhibit each day.

“It’s important that the University is having it here, as it provides the opportunity for both academic discussion and personal reflection,” she said.
