Resident Coordinator finds injured cat

Melissa Neff, a La Salle Resident Coordinator in North Halls, made the news April 2 when she rescued a cat that had been hit by a car and left on the side of the road, according to an article on nbc10.com.

Last Monday, March 26, Neff was leaving her apartment in North Halls and heading to her office when she discovered a cat in one of the bathrooms.

“We occasionally find cats in the residence halls and we usually just chase them out, but this one looked hurt,” Neff said. “I gave it water, and it started to move around more, and that is when I saw the big burn on its one side.”

Neff proceeded to take her lunch break to try and find a place to take the cat in the area. She and her husband took it to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Philadelphia, where they treated the cat’s burn with antibiotics and more fluids.

“I am a huge cat person, so I was upset to let it go,” Neff said. “I wanted to take it home, but I also have to follow the University guidelines about not having pets in the residence halls.”

The 3-year-old orange and white cat, named Mango, will recover in a foster home until he is healthy, and then will be placed for adoption. According to the article on nbc10.com, Mango is “very laid-back and sweet-tempered.”

If you would like to adopt Mango, call 215-426-6300.
