Brother Scubilion Rousseau Justice Award will be presented for the first time

This year during Charter Week, University Ministry and Service (UMAS) will be presenting the Brother Scubilion Rousseau Justice Award as part of the Project on Justice.

The award, which will be given for the first time, is given to a full-time faculty or staff member of La Salle who thoroughly demonstrates the importance of a just world both within and outside of the University community.

“We are trying to keep issues of justice at the forefront because it is important to the entire campus,” said Bro. Robert Kinzler, Director UMAS and a member of the committee that decides the winner.

For the past two years, a similar award was presented to graduating seniors who demonstrated service in the community. The new award will help recognize others on campus.

Any student, faculty or staff member can nominate a candidate. Nominations are due by Feb. 19, and a committee will review each of them afterwards.

The chair of the committee is Louise Giugliano, associate director of UMAS. Other faculty members include Becky Messa, Dr. Greer Richardson, Michael Nielsen and Kinzler. Students on the committee include Katie Leary, Nicole Wilson, Anthony Delcollo and graduate intern Claire Petroski.

“Most of the time this service gets done without fanfare, so we would like to acknowledge these individuals,” Kinzler said. “Hopefully this will inspire some other people to make a change.”
