Maintenance requests undergo a few repairs

Anyone who has lived in on-campus housing at La Salle knows how impossible it can seem to get things repaired. Fortunately for resident students, La Salle is working hard to improve the response time.

“Instead of the maintenance request forms coming to our office first and then re-directed to Physical Facilities, they will be sent directly to Physical Facilities to try and speed up the response time,” said Jeffrey Hershberger, Director of Administrative Services.

Hershberger added that this change would be seamless to residential students, since they will not see any physical changes in how to make a maintenance request. During the upcoming summer, the University is going to attempt to make a new form for the students and faculty to increase the speed and simplicity of requesting maintenance.

This change will surely be welcomed throughout the community.

“I moved into my place the first week of school and no outlets were working in the kitchen, so I filed a maintenance request form,” said senior communication major Alessia Kline. “I received an electronic confirmation through my La Salle e-mail, but it didn’t give a time frame of when they were coming. Apparently, someone did come a few days later because the outlets were working, but maintenance left no note or sign that they had come to fix it.”

Senior Spanish major Dara Mitchell faced similar problems in her apartment.

   “The light in our kitchen blew out sometime in November, so we sent a maintenance request form,” Mitchell said. “It didn’t get fixed until over Christmas break.”

However, some students have better luck than others. Senior communication major Rorie Wells said her problem was fixed in a timely manner.

     Hershberger pointed out that even though the maintenance request forms will be sent directly to Physical Facilities, Administrative Services will also get the requests.
