Here they come, Mr. and Ms. La Salle
Whether you love or loath pageants, the glitz and glamour can be a fun distraction from the monotony of life. This is why La Salle will be hosting its own pageant in the Dan Rodden Theater 9:30 p.m. March 24. Spotlight! caught up with junior geology major Scott Baietti, a member of the Resident Student Association (RSA) Executive Board, to find out more about the Mr. and Ms. La Salle competition. Spotlight: Who is running this event? Scott Baietti: It’s hosted by RSA and sponsored by Late Night La Salle. S: Who can enter the contest? SB: The contest is open to any student who has paid the student activity fee. We are hoping to have a diverse group of contestants from all grades and majors, both residents and commuters. If anyone is interested in being a contestant, they can e-mail me at baiettis1@lasalle.edu and I will give them more information. As of now registration is over, but plans may change. S: What are contestants asked to do? SB: The contestants will be asked to model casual and formal wear, perform a talent and answer a question about why they deserve to win. The contestants must provide their own wardrobe and talent supplies, but the terms formal and casual wear can be interpreted loosely as long as it is appropriate. S: Will there be prizes? SB: There will be prizes for all participants, including awards for the runners-up, and the overall winners for each gender. In addition, there will be an audience raffle, which will serve as a fundraiser for the service trips, as well as factor into the final decision of the winner. S: How do the raffle tickets factor in? SB: There will be buckets for each contestant, and all audience members will have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets to put into the bucket of their favorite contestant. For each ticket a contestant has in his or her bucket, they will receive one bonus point on his or her overall score. This allows the audience to be involved in the selection of the winner. At the end of the night, a ticket will be drawn from each contestant’s bucket. S: What do you hope will come from this event? SB: The hope of this event is to have an enjoyable evening where people can show their school spirit, as this event is occurring at the end of Charter Week. We also hope that at the end of the night there is a winner for each gender that completely embodies what it is to be a La Salle student. williamsk1@lasalle.edu |
