Healthy relationships week is for all
On Feb. 14, the world will celebrate love and togetherness. Valentine's Day is the reason for the season of love. People, whether family members or girlfriends and boyfriends, will be together. It is also a time to perfect communication in relationships. Never underestimate the power of discussing problems and working them out. Healthy Relationships Week started Monday, Feb. 11, but activities last through the entire week. Coordinators from St. Neumann, St. Basil Court, St. Cassian, PEERS, Organization of Latin American Students and African American Student League to name a few, put on their own event pertaining to the maintenance of healthy relationships. The first day of Healthy Relationships Week started at St. Neumann. The resident assistants at St. Neumann held a gathering to discus sex health education. Feb. 12, PEERS held a lecture discussing how to keep "unaccepted" relationships healthy. They also distributed healthy relationship surveys around the entire campus. Wednesday is St. Cassian's and St. Basil Court's day. Cassian RAs at North Dorms put together the "Roomie-wed." It is open to all roommates, so everyone at South Campus is more than welcome to join in these festivities. St. Basil is hosting "Sex Between the Sheets," an interactive sex education session. Girls and guys are asked to stand on different sides of a sheet and anonymously discuss the taboo topic of sex. It is an easy way of asking questions and learning things you never knew before. Valentine's Day is complete when celebrated with your sweetheart. Sweethearts' Day Celebration is sponsored by PEERS. During free period in the Union Lobby, students are invited to come by and make cards and other creations for that special someone. If you are looking for a good V-Day gift, get your picture taken and frame it. The night of V-Day, from 8 to10 p.m., the Resident Student Association, OLAS and Alpha Phi Delta sponsor the Strawberries and Chocolate Dinner Dance. The occasion is a semi-formal, so organizations encourage students to dress properly for the event. If you are single, you are more than welcome to partake in the live DJ and food. The overall message of this week is the fact that all relationships should be cherished. Junior sociology major Michal Wilczewski, a Basil RA, said, "[These events are] trying to teach the La Salle community [how to have success] in general relationships." If love and communication have always been top priority in your relationship, or if you want to grow in knowledge, then this week-long series of events is right for you. Just remember, to treat your loved ones right. szrankowskie1@lasalle.edu |
