Majors and Minors Fair out to help students
Students who need help deciding on a major or minor, or if you’re just looking for a different academic route, help has arrived in the form of the Majors and Minors Fair. This Feb. 21 event can potentially answer all your questions when it comes to La Salle's academic offerings. This is the first year Career Services and La Salle faculty have gotten together to host this kind of event. It originated from Explore U and its initiatives. The goal of Explore U is to create a “four-year structured career development plan” according to Michael Bachman, for all La Salle students. This is a necessity for a brilliant career in the future. With this fair, students have the chance to explore their choices when it comes to academic offerings within different majors and minors. With 27 majors and 16 “special minors,” it is sometimes difficult to choose what career route one would want to take. Undecided freshmen and sophomores will have a chance to explore the three schools:Business, Arts and Sciences, and Nursing. Sophomores and juniors can see if they want to supplement their majors. Teachers, each from the schools and specific majors/minors, will be on hand to answer any concerns. If you want a current student’s point of view, there will be knowledgeable upperclassmen at the fair as well. A few alumni will be present, if you are looking for a small networking opportunity. “[The fair is] a good thing for students,” Michael J. Bachman, the associate director of Career Services, said. “It is among one of the best practices for student development.” Bachman also indicated there has been a “high increase in sophomores and juniors who are double majoring or taking a minor to diversify their skill sets.” He went on to say that this can make a student “more appealing to future employers.” Consequently, there is something for everyone with every academic interest. Whether you are a communication major looking at a marketing minor or a business major looking to have a second major in Spanish, the event can benefit you. At this event, major and/or minor hunters can find out which classes are necessary to take to fulfill the given requirements. The Majors and Minors Fair was made to “help new and future students,” said Bachman. It is meant to leave an example on the students that will carry with them, specifically into their career. This makes way for a “traditional” approach to how majors and minors are decided. The keyword of this event is to “explore,” so do not be afraid to investigate in what you are offered. The event will also have free food and a $300 prize giveaway. Dress is casual, so feel free to go to this event right after class, during free period in the Union Ballroom. szrankowskie1@lasalle.edu |
