Security temporarily restores TC shuttle stop
La Salle Security and Safety restored shuttle service to St. Teresa Court Feb. 22 in order to provide convenience and safety to its residents. The service was temporarily halted for 24 days due to construction on the Shoppes at La Salle in Good Shepherd parking lot. “When we were presented with the opportunity to reinstitute service we grabbed it,” Denny Graeber, associate director of Security and Safety, said. The decision to restore shuttle service to St. Teresa Court came in response to growing apprehension among its residents in regard to safety. “The TC residents had voiced much concern and we took steps to minimize their inconvenience,” Graeber said. The restoration of shuttle services is temporary and will last only until construction progresses to the site of the shuttle bus turnaround. Security and Safety does not know when this will occur, but Graeber indicated that security will make every attempt to offer shuttle services to TC. “Rest assured that when we reach this point in time, we will try to find alternatives to keep this shuttle stop,” he said. Restoring the shuttle stop required that security work with the construction company working on the Shoppes, but Graeber said getting the company to comply “was fairly easy.” “We simply met with the site manager at GSP and explained our dilemma,” he said. “It has been our experience…that the site supervisors are always willing to cooperate with the host. We meet with these people in advance of the project to establish these lines of communication and cooperation. It always pays dividends.” So far, La Salle students are enjoying the return of shuttle service to TC. “It’s awesome,” junior pre-med major Zack Coons, a resident of TC, said. “I really appreciate the safety and convenience of having a shuttle stop back out in front of TC.” Sophomore undeclared major Danielle Skinner lives in St. Basil, but she also indicated her support for the return of the TC shuttle stop. “I think it [was] necessary for the shuttle to return to TC to ensure a safe environment for the students of La Salle,” she said. “The school needs to take all appropriate measures to keep our campus safe.” orensteinm1@lasalle.edu |
