University breaks ground on Holroyd Hall's expansion
La Salle will break new ground yet again March 20, when the expansion of Holroyd Hall officially begins with a ceremony outside of the building at 11 a.m. Although the event will consist mostly of run-of-the-mill photo-ops, the expansion will mark the beginning of an innovative fixture on campus: La Salle’s first “green” building. By its estimated fall 2009 completion, the building will be armed with earth-friendly features like solar-electricity and environmentally sound materials. Additionally, the building’s size will expand to a total of more than 10,000 feet. Sitting inside Holroyd Hall will be the new Hugh and Nancy Devlin Science and Technology Center, which will contain student lounges, laboratories and study areas. The new building will house all science, computer and mathematics classes, allowing the areas of study to mingle and for students and staff to collaborate on research projects, according to a press release from University Communications. University President Brother Michael McGinniss and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences Dr. Thomas Keagy will speak during the ceremony; and a blessing will be made by Father James Dever. brodbecke1@lasalle.edu |
