Sport shorts—golf, lacrosse and women's tennis

Golf

The Explorer golf team participated in the Lafayette Invitational this weekend. Rainy conditions caused the authorities to shorten the event to one day.

On Monday, April 10, the weather was nice enough to play, and the players went out for the only round of competition that the event would have.

Junior John Lorenzo had a good day of competition and the best score among Explorer golfers. Lorenzo shot a 74 on the day, good enough for eighth place overall in the invitational. He was three strokes off the pace set by the leader, Drew Ellis from Duquesne, who shot a 71 on the day. As a team, La Salle shot a combined score of 412.

Lacrosse

The women’s lacrosse team played two games this past week. On Friday, April 7, they traveled to Duquesne University for a showdown with the Dukes.

The Explorers won the game, 10-8. Senior Kat Prokop led the team, scoring three goals in the contest.

On Sunday, April 9, the team headed to St. Bonaventure to play the Bonnies in another Atlantic 10 road matchup.

Despite some good performances, the Explorers could not hold off the Bonnies. The final score was St. Bonaventure 15, La Salle 12.

Sophomore Emily Bonczek continued her great season by tallying five points in the game. She scored four goals and dished out one assist in the contest.

The Explorers dropped to 5-7 on the season, including 1-2 in the Atlantic 10. St. Bonaventure improved to a perfect 9-0, with a 2-0 A-10 record.

The Explorer lacrosse team will be back in action twice this next week. They play against Lehigh on Wednesday, April 12 and face off against Massachusetts on Saturday, April 15.

Women’s Tennis

On Monday, April 10, the Explorer women’s tennis team traveled to West Long Branch, N.J. to play the Monmouth Hawks.

The Explorers dominated the match. Junior Joann Lee, freshman Lauren Perry, senior Courtney Tereszcuk and sophomore Martha Kutteh all won their singles matches. In addition, La Salle swept the doubles competition to earn the extra point.

The Explorers won the match overall by a score of 5-2.

With the win, the team improved to 9-8 on the season. The squad has one match this week against the Drexel Dragons on Wednesday, April 12.
