Soccer season ends

The men's soccer team ended the season on a good note with a win over Atlantic 10 opponent George Washington on Sunday.

“It’s always good to end a season with a win, not only for a confidence boost for next year, but leaving a positive memory for the senior captains,” freshman Gene Curran said.

The men got an early lead as the sophomore duo of Jim Davis and Brian Barry made it to the net for the first goal. Barry passed to Davis who found the high corner of the net to take the lead.

“It was good to get ahead early, because the last couple of games we found ourselves behind, which made it harder to come back and get the win,” Curran said.

Five minutes later, the Colonials tied the game up. However, this would be their only goal of the game.

“I wasn’t surprised with the goal, because they had the wind on their back during the first half and this was a big factor during the game," Curran said. "Even though it set us back, we knew as a team during the second half we would have the wind, which would make getting that extra goal much easier."

Davis came back again, as he took a shot in the first minute of the second half. His shot made it through a crowd of players and into the net, giving the Explorers a 2-1 victory.

“I knew as soon as we scored the second goal the chances that the Colonials would come back were slim to none," Curran said. "This was due to the fact that we had the wind on our back and the superior intensity of the seniors. They knew it was the last half of soccer they would be playing for the La Salle Explorers."

Leaving the team this year are senior co-captains Matt Kelly and Jeff Spiker.
