Atlantic 10 announces individual awards

The Atlantic 10 announced the 2006-07 All-Conference Awards for women’s basketball Tuesday, and the Explorers are well represented in this year’s selections.

Junior Carlene Hightower was selected to the All-Conference First Team as well as the All-Conference Defensive Team. Hightower has been excellent all year, averaging 17.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.45 assists and 2.34 steals per game. Last season, she was selected as the conference’s Most Improved Player. She was also a Preseason All-Defensive pick this season.

Her teammate, senior Crista Ricketts, received All-Conference Second Team honors. Ricketts completed the season averaging 17 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She also shot 51 percent from the field. This is Ricketts’ fourth time receiving postseason honors from the Atlantic 10. She was named to the Rookie Team in her freshman year, the Second Team in her sophomore year and the First Team in her junior year. She is the first La Salle player ever to make a postseason All-Conference Team for four straight years.

Temple’s Kamesha Hairston was named the A-10 Player of the Year. Hairston finished the season averaging 19.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She had 17 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in the Owls’ win over La Salle on Feb. 12.
