William Logan Fisher, 1781 - 1862
William Logan Fisher was born in 1781 to Thomas Fisher and Sarah Logan. Throughout his life, Fisher’s notoriety became established through his business endeavors, family relations, and property claims.
As the proprietor of the prosperous Wakefield Mills Manufacturing Company and the joint-owner of a calico print mill, both located in Germantown, Fisher’s involvement with the textile industry was significantly influential in the Philadelphia area. His family associations created numerous business and personal opportunities, including involvement in the iron industry and the property acquisition of the Belfield Estate from Charles Willson Peale.
He was a successful business man but also a husband and father. Between two marriages, Fisher fathered six children, one of whom married into the prominent Wister family of Philadelphia.
William Logan Fisher died in 1862, and now much of the land he and his family owned has now become a significant part of La Salle University’s landscape.
