What is Microsoft Live@edu?
Live@edu is an ultimate suite of applications - mobile, desktop and web-based -to help you collaborate on campus, and create a community that lasts a lifetime.
Microsoft Live@edu provides hosted email, calendars, online workspaces, mobile alerts, document sharing, instant messaging, blogs, videoconferencing, mobile access and address books, all accessible on Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile devices.

Why is the University making this change?
The migration of student email accounts to third-party providers is a big win for students and alumni. It enables students to keep their La Salle University email account after they graduate—something the University has wanted to offer for a long time, but has not had the resources to provide. The private vendors also offer a suite of tools and functionality that integrate with email, which will enhance the email experience. The email interfaces are also considerably more modern and user-friendly.
Moreover, because email is a core business for these providers, and because they serve vast numbers of users, they are much better able than La Salle University’s email system to scale up to increased demand, and adjust to changes in load. That translates to more reliable, robust email for students and alumni.

Have any other universities done this?
Yes. La Salle University joins a growing list of institutions that are using third-party email service providers—including Indiana University, the University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern, and Arizona State—who have offered either Microsoft Live@edu, Gmail with Google Apps, or both to their students.

What other services are included with Live@edu?

Will I get a lot of spam using the new system?
No. Live@edu uses state-of-the-art technologies to defeat spam.

What will happen to my email account when I graduate?
One advantage of Live@edu is that you won’t have to abandon or export your email, contacts, or calendar items when you graduate from La Salle. You can continue to use Microsoft Live services after you graduate. Once you are no longer a student, your email powered by Outlook Live will still exist, but your account will be transferred to use the @alumi.lasalle.edu domain. Also, advertising will appear in the interfaces for your email, calendar, etc. If you don’t log in for 180 days, any mail messages stored on the Microsoft Live server will be deleted, but the account itself will remain. All messages from your original account (username@lasalle.edu) will automatically go to the new account.

How do I access my new email account?
You can access your new email account through the new mylasalle portal. Login to the mylasalle portal and click the email icon at the top right.
