About the Department
We offer majors and minors in the Classics, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. A minor program is also available in Japanese. Additionally, students may also take classes in Irish-Gaelic and Mandarin Chinese. The Department works in conjunction with other University departments to enhance our offerings. Future language educators can earn a teaching certificate through the Education Department, while others can obtain Central and Eastern European or Asian Studies minors. Time spent in the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department is not comprised entirely of study! We have a wide variety of student activities that include language clubs and international cultural excursions.
Our Department continues to expand in an effort to stay abreast of the needs of our students. We have recently added Mandarin Chinese to our undergraduate offerings and a certificate in intelligence and security policy studies to our graduate programs.
