Profile
Dr. Tonrey received her doctorate in clinical psychology from La Salle University in 2002, and her master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling, with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from La Salle University in 1994. Dr. Tonrey is a licensed as a psychologist, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselor in Pennsylvania. She is the Director and Master’s Program in Clinical Counseling Psychology

Dr. Tonrey currently is the Chair of the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors, and has served on the board for nine years. She is an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Approved Supervisor.

Dr. Tonrey is the former treasurer of the Association for Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards, which is a national board regulating the MFT boards in the USA, and she held the post for two years.

Dr. Tonrey was directly involved in the coalition between PA Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors, working together in a unified effort to pass licensing legislation.
During Dr. Tonrey’s 1998-1999 tenure as President of the Pennsylvania Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (PAMFT), marriage and family therapy, and professional counseling licensing passed in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Tonrey created and is currently involved in the continued development of the Family Building Projective Technique (FBPT), which is an interactive projective technique utilizing a systems approach to therapeutic practice. Research evidence indicates an increase in Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) clients’ willingness to discuss family issues in group sessions, a reduction in tension with regard to family issues, and an increase in client awareness and participation.
