Graduate Certificate in Social and New Media
Enhancing Communication in the Digital Age
The Certificate in Social and New Media is designed for working professionals who want to boost their credentials by mastering best practices in emerging communication technologies. Students may choose to complete this certificate by taking all online courses or through a combination of online and in-person formats. Courses center on developing the new media strategies necessary for any contemporary marketing, public relations, or information management professionals.
The Certificate in Social and New Media includes five courses (15 total credits).
- COM 641 Social Media
- INL 635 Digital Media Content Development
- CIS 646 Collaboration Technologies
- COM 601 Professional Communication Ethics
Choose one of the following:
- COM 640 Professional Media Development
- COM 645 Special Topics in Social and New Media
- INL 650 User-Interface Technologies
Students may elect to enter the M.A. in Professional and Business Communication Program upon completion of the Certificate, provided they have earned a 3.0 or better grade point average. Only seven additional courses are needed to earn the Master’s degree. Also, M.A. students are welcome to pursue the Certificate in Social and New Media in addition to their MA program.
