Gerry Altmiller is an Associate Professor of Nursing at La Salle and a clinical nurse specialist at Albert Einstein Medical Center. She has been a member of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Collaboration since 2006 and has been a national consultant for QSEN since 2009. She has published several teaching strategies for focusing nursing education on quality and safety concerns. She is also a reviewer for the QSEN organization. Dr. Altmiller was an invited author by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing for its Transition to Practice Project, to author the Teamwork and Communication Module of its project, which is proposed to provide national education focused on quality and safety for all nurses by the year 2015. She has published on quality and safety in nursing education and has spoken nationally at conferences on this topic. She has researched lateral violence in the nursing profession and incivility in the educational arena and presented the results at national conferences regarding the negative effects these impose on patient safety.
Currently, Dr. Altmiller teaches in the undergraduate nursing program and serves as the track coordinator for the clinical nurse specialist program.

Altmiller, G. (April 2011). Communication and Teamwork. National Council of State Boards of
Nursing: Transition to Practice Program learning module. This learning module was
developed for implementation as a national program for new-to-practice nurses. It was
commissioned by the National Council that oversees licensing for all nurses in the
United States. This initiative is a national education program to be mandated for
nursing licensure renewal. The program consists of seven modules authored by
experts in their field. I was recruited as an expert in teamwork and communication.
This project entailed creating educational content that includes interactive exercises
and a web-based examination for participants.
