The
pedagological philosophy of
La Salle University emphasizes the need for a strong
basis in the humanities for all undergraduates and for
this reason requires everyone to complete courses
whose focus is the humanities. Individual academic
departments will offer students a more intensive study
in a specific discipline, but only after the majority
of the requirements in this humanistically-based core
have been completed.
The curricular structure of the Honors Program
follows this general university model, but with
modifications that recognize the needs and abilities
of the highly motivated, intellectually gifted
student. These modifications are primarily in the
manner in which the Honors Program student satisfies
these essential university-wide requirements.
Most important, however, is the community with
whom the Honors Program student satisfies these
requirements. Similarly-talented peers, meeting in
small seminar settings with faculty dedicated to
undergraduate teaching is but one of the hallmarks of
the La Salle Honors community. You will be
participating in a Program which has as its specific
objective the challenge of educating the superior
student.
In the first year of studies, the Honors Program
student completes three honors courses each term and a
three hour "humanities lab" each week. Collectively
this experience is referred to as the "Freshman
Triple."
