A Typical Day - Junior Steve
Martin
Steve
Martin is a junior Philosophy major. He is from Northeast
Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Father Judge High
School.
He is one of the
co-coordinators of the Los Ninos program at La Salle,
which is an annual service trip to Tijuana, Mexico. Steve
and about 2 dozen other La Salle students work in and
with the Mexican community for 9 days in May after
classes let out.
As president of the Philosophy Club Steve makes sure
that La Salle students "have the opportunity to
"experience philosophy and apply it to the real world
through guest lectures, movies, readings, and
discussions."
Steve is also the host and one of the writers for "Q
& A" on La Salle 56, the University's Educational
Access Cable Channel. Steve is proud to be apart of La
Salle's "best and only game show" which features a "
hodge podge of lengthy questions and bad puns."
The classes Steve enjoys most are interdisciplinary in
nature, a hallmark of the honors program experience.
Steve's honors courses like "Simplicity to Complexity"
and Vietnam Perspectives, as well as the team taught
Psychology 372 and Philosophy 372 electives within his
major, are excellent means of "bridging gaps" and
"transcending disciplines."
Steve has also taken advantage of the travel study
class opportunities, visiting Poland and the Czech
Republic, Vienna and Buddapest, Barcelona, and Turkey
over spring break in conjunction with courses taught both
in and out of the honors program.
Over the summer, in addition to the Los Ninos trip,
Steve will be working hard to assist in the development
of a new minor in "Global Understanding" as well as
taking German courses. As far as his future endeavors,
Steve is looking into graduate programs and fellowships.
