At the conclusion of the 2011-2012 academic year, the Honors Board amended its constitution. In the amendment, the chair of public relations was eliminated and those responsibilities were reassigned to the secretary. A new chair was established to recognize the importance of service in the Honors community and for the University. The chair of service now serves the Board and the program in a many capacities. Responsibilities include coordinating the Light the Night Walk, participating in University “trash bashes,” recruiting Honors Program students for volunteer work, coordinating the St. James School service site, and organizing various other service projects during the academic year. Particularly important has been the establishment of the service site at the
St. James School. While it is still a work in progress, the Board hopes to sponsor a weekly visit to the school for tutoring and mentoring.
