Article Locator is intended to help you locate whether La Salle University Library has a subscription to an article which you have found by using an index. If the article is available fulltext online, a link to either the article or the journal is provided. If not available online, you can click on a link to find out if La Salle University library has the article in print. If La Salle University Library does not have the article, you have the option to request an Interlibrary Loan.
When you get your results in a database search look for either the words “Article Locator@La Salle" OR the magnifying glass icon:
In some cases you will need to follow a link which says “Looking for an Article?” or “Find a Copy” Some database vendors allow us to change this wording and others do not.
You will see one of two things:
- If there is a direct link to an online version of the article available, Article Locator will take you right there. You will see the following in the window which opens:
Missing article? Need more sources? Get additional resources related to this citation.
Below there will be a link to the full text of the article. The link will differ depending on which database the article is coming from. If you get a message that the article cannot be found, click the "additional resources related to this citation" link that will bring you back to the Article Locator window.
- If there is not a direct link to the online version of the article, you will see the Article Locator window open.

Additional options (do not submit an Interlibrary Loan without checking the Library Catalog!)Step 2: Search the Connelly Library Catalog
By ISSN By Periodical Title - drop initial "the" By Book Title - Cut and Paste
- Click the first link to search the library’s catalog by ISSN (International Standard Serials Number) This works for most titles in most databases.
- Some databases do not use the ISSN, (Social Work Abstracts, before 2000). In that case search by the title, by clicking the second catalog link. Be aware that if the periodical title begins with “the” you must erase the “the” before it will find the correct catalog record.
- If the database you are searching also indexes books, you must cut and paste the title of the book into the book title link. Article Linker will not insert the book title for you.
If the article is not available in our library, you can submit an InterLibrary Loan. See message below:
Step 3. Submit InterLibrary Loan Request (do not submit an Interlibrary Loan without checking the Catalog)
Click here to submit ILLIF YOU ARE USING FIRSTSEARCH, CLOSE
WINDOW AND USE FIRSTSEARCH ILL.
If the database you are using is available through then close the Article Locator window and submit your ILL through FirstSearch. Click the
button.
If the database you are using is NOT through FirstSearch, choose Click here to submit ILL.
The data for your request should appear properly filled out. However, YOU are responsible for checking the information. Be sure that the date appears – in some databases the date does not always show up. By checking your ILL, you are helping to speed it along. You must also fill in your name and your Library Barcode – found on the back of your ID card.
The ILL link in Article Locator is good for ARTICLES only! If you need to submit a request for a book, use the PALCI E-ZBORROW system, which is only for books and is usually faster.
You may sometimes experience problems with some of the links. This is a new system which relies on linking from many different sources. If you have a problem, please let us know by emailing refdesk@lasalle.edu or calling 215 951-1287.
