Bob Dylan

The Life & Work of Bob Dylan Collection

The Connelly Library's Life and Work of Bob Dylan Collection has been growing since the mid-1990s, making us one of the first academic institutions to curate a scholarly collection around the musician. Numbering over 750 items, the researcher may expect to find printed books, doctoral dissertations, conference papers, runs of journals, anthologized articles, vinyl recordings, CDs, cassette tapes, DVDs and VHS films, anthologies of photographs, interviews, collections of websites, and ephemera such as concert T-shirts and concert programs.

The Collection houses over 90 works of criticism and interpretation of Dylan’s music. It features more than 30 theses, including 20 doctoral dissertations from universities all over the world. It includes over 40 books of musical scores and indexed lyrics, some dozen discographies, and 10 different periodicals whose entire focus is dedicated to Bob Dylan. Biographies of Dylan and other American folk singers constitute a significant bulk of the Collection, with well over 70 works; including biographical documentaries, interviews and magazine articles that deal with Dylan as a cultural icon.

Our Library exhibit for 2017 delved into academic perspectives on Dylan. View the web exhibition to see selections from the Collection.
