APA Accredited Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology
La Salle University's APA Accredited Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology is a professional program intended for those students who have completed a bachelor's degree in psychology, or a related field and for those who hold a master's degree in a mental health discipline.
It is a 5-year full time program that has a part-time option that allows two levels of the program to be completed over 4 calendar years for a maximum time frame of 7 years from entry to degree completion. The Program follows the practitioner-scholar model of training clinical psychologists, and as such, an intensive integration of theory and practice is stressed throughout the entire course of study. The program requires the completion of a two-year practicum progression and a full year clinical internship. It also requires the completion of the Clinical Dissertation, a qualitative or quantitative research project that addresses an important original question of relevance to the practice of clinical psychology. The program emphasizes those approaches to the practice of clinical psychology that have demonstrated empirical support and acknowledges and incorporates issues of human diversity throughout the curriculum. This program also meets the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards/National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology "Guidelines for Defining 'Doctoral Degree in Psychology.'" Therefore, a graduate of this designated program who decides to apply for licensing as a psychologist typically will meet the educational requirements for licensing.
