In most cases candidates for admission should have completed 18 hours of undergraduate course work in English or a related discipline, with a GPA of at least 3.0. In addition, candidates must present evidence of one of the following: evidence of a currently valid teaching certificate, an acceptable score on the Graduate Record Examination General Test or the Miller’s Analogy test, or an acceptable score on the English section of the Praxis Test (native speakers of a language other than English must submit TOEFL scores). They must also submit transcripts of all undergraduate course work, three letters of recommendation, and a brief personal statement (250-500 words).
It should be noted that the stated admissions requirements are construed as guidelines; the admissions committee fully recognizes that some candidates may present either credentials or prior experiences that lay beyond the parameters described here.
