Formally trained peer tutors work with students one-on-one, and tutoring sessions typically run 30 minutes for short papers and 50 minutes for longer papers. Drop-in help is available if a tutor is free.
While tutors usually offer writing advice on drafts, they also assist with the writing process, which can mean helping students brainstorm ideas, formulate a development plan (“road map”) for a paper, develop a draft thesis, and learn about various documentation styles. Tutors assist students with proofreading but do not act merely as proofreaders, as the goal is to help students improve their writing skills overall.
For students taking all their classes at one of La Salle’s branch campuses, distance tutoring is available. Contact the Writing Center at 215.951.1299 for more information.
