University of Arizona Eller Annual Collegiate Ethics Case Competition (undergraduate)
In Fall 2010, our third undergraduate team of two students competed in the Eller Ethics Competition. The winning team in our September on-campus competition represented La Salle in Tucson in October. The competition expose students to a thought provoking business ethics case that they could face in their professional careers. The teams collaboratively analyze, present, and respond to questions posed by a panel of judges. The experience promises to challenge students’ moral reasoning, provide a wonderful networking opportunity, and in the end, raise students’ awareness of the importance of corporate social responsibility.
Teams must assume a particular identity (e.g., company employees and/or consultants) and assume that the judges are a particular audience (e.g., company executives and/or a board of directors). Each team is asked to identify the stakeholders in the case; discuss the financial, legal, and philosophical considerations; and offer recommendations on how to proceed.
