School of Arts and Sciences Home

In the School of Arts and Sciences, our mission extends beyond the classroom and mimics the historic mission of the Christian Brothers, which is one of service and outreach. Our students and our faculty volunteer in a variety of settings and reach out through an array of programs:

  • Our Education and Social Work departments send volunteers into the area public schools and human service agencies to teach and to mentor
  • Our Psychology department trains counselors, who provide their services through a neighborhood clinic
  • Our Math and Science departments offer summer programs for area youth through a grant from the National Science Foundation
  • Our Art Museum hosts lectures and tours for seniors and for children
  • Our High School Scholars program gives motivated high school students a taste of college life
  • Our English department works with area agencies seeking students to work as tutors in their literacy programs
  • Our Foreign Languages department has dedicated itself to the Latino population through its newly created Hispanic Institute
