School of Arts and Sciences Home

To better raise our students' global awareness and prepare them more fully to be productive and engaged citizens of the world,
La Salle promotes study abroad opportunities and has three locations sponsored by the University itself: Ireland, Italy, and Mexico.

Arts and Sciences students often find programs sponsored by other universities as well, having traveled to Scotland, Korea, and South America, among other locations. Also popular is the Semester-at-Sea program.

In addition to the traditional full semester options, each year the School of Arts and Sciences offers a number of travel/study courses that give students an opportunity to experience a different culture or field of study while based on La Salle's campus working with a LaSalle faculty member. Trips of seven to 10 days greatly enhance the subject matter and provide students with a taste of what a semester abroad might be like.

Employers are beginning to look at study abroad experiences very favorably, perhaps even more so than internship experiences. Additionally, our students have undergone immense personal transformations, that often alter dramatically the course of their lives. As a result of these experiences, we have recent alums teaching English in Korea, engaged in research in England, working in museums in Italy, and so on.

Our faculty also are engaged in research that focuses on subjects of global concern. They travel frequently to make presentations at international conferences and are published widely in a variety of international journals. This past year alone, they have been to Austria, Germany, England, Italy, the Phillipines, Vietnam, Ireland, Guatemala, Canada, Africa, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Mexico, and Thailand.

Of special note is the fact that the Communication department has inaugurated a graduate program that enables students to complete a La Salle degree outside the United States. The department's M.A. in Professional Communication and Public Relations program in Prague has attracted students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds from around the world.
