The Education Department's Summer Enrichment Program promotes learning experiences on two levels!
At a secondary level, the goal is to help students in seventh, eighth, and nine grade:
become more confident and organized when giving a presentation in school
- learn how to think critically, take notes, and budget time,
- learn how to negotiate when working with group members and
- solving academic problems,
- discover academic potential, and
- be better prepared to enter and succeed in high school.
At the collegiate level the second goal of the program is to create practical teaching experiences for La Salle's graduate students who are working toward state certification at the secondary level. They will spend 3 weeks preparing for this experience by receiving instruction and creating a curriculum that will be taught to the middle/high school students in attendance.
The program is created and implemented under the direct supervision of faculty members in La Salle's Education Department. The following subjects will be emphasized in this summer's program:
- Modern World Languages
- Social Studies
- English Language
It's a win-win learning experience for both groups that follows in traditions set forth by St. John the Baptist De La Salle: it provides innovative learning approaches to mastering the fundamentals in education. It also places the children in a university setting where hopefully future educational aspirations will be contemplated.
