La Salle University senior Derek Moench won First Prize for Best College Animation at the Bucks Fever FilmFest for his film Computerlove.
The eight-minute stop-action film is about a computer falling in love with its owner. Moench got the idea from the music of the German band, Kraftwerk.
“The judges were in agreement that in Derek’s film, the filmmaker used simple objects to tell an emotional story of love,” says James Sanders, co-chair of the Bucks Fever FilmFest. “We all felt that Derek showed a great deal of promise and that his energy was conveyed in his filmmaking.”
Moench and a friend do an animated variety show on La Salle University’s cable channel 56, which has aired his films. He is also prose editor for Grimoire, La Salle’s literary magazine, and has been a tutor at Julia DeBurgos Middle School in Philadelphia since his freshman year
