Communication alum, Paul Poiesz, '82, will serve as the Honorary High School Boys referee at the 111th running of the Penn Relays. This honor goes to only four coaches of college and high school men's and women's teams.
The official Penn Relay program notes includes the following information about Mr. Poiesz: "It's safe to say that the Penn Relays could not be started without Paul Poiesz who has served as one of the Carnival's starters since 1992. Poiesz's teams at Bishop McDevitt have been among the most successful in the Philadelphia Catholic League, his boys winning 14 outdoor team titles since 1981 and the girls adding six more crowns since 1993. Poiesz was named the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1996." |
