On April 3rd, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, hosted the annual Mid-Atlantic American Studies Conference. For the first time at the conference, the sessions included a roundtable on undergraduate research. Dr. Francis Ryan, Chair of the American Studies Program at La Salle University was the session chair and lead discussant.
The best undergraduate research paper was presented by student authors from La Salle, Lehigh, Penn State, Temple, and Rutgers. Heather Killeen, a junior AMST/ESE major, was selected by a La Salle committee of AMST faculty to represent the University.
Killeen's research was entitled "The Post-War Suburbs: A Study of Time and Space." and was built upon the foundation of a paper which she wrote in Dr. John Beatty's AMST 400 Seminar. Several of Heather's colleagues from La Salle also attended the session. In fact, more undergraduate AMST students from La Salle attended than from any other school--quite a tribute to the University and to Heather. Several La Salle AMSTR faculty also attended, including Drs. John Beatty, Preston Feden, and Gary Clabaugh. |
