On Monday, March 27 at 1:00 PM in Holroyd 141, the La Salle Historical Society will sponsor a speaking engangement by James J. Kirschke, La Salle alumnus, author and college professor.
Kirschke graduated from La Salle in 1964, and saw action in the Vietnam War where he lost part of both legs from a land mine incident. This, however, did not deter him from returning to Philadelphia and earning graduate degrees in English.
Now a professor at Villanova University, Kirschke wrote a well-received memoir of his time in Vietnam, titled Not Going Home Alone: A Marine's Story.
He has now authored a biography of Revolutionary War figure Gouveneur Morris, who played a key role at the Constitutional Convention. Like Kirschke, Morris did not let physical disabilities keep him from accomplishing his goals in life.
