| Dr. Frances Fox Piven, Distinguished Professor of Political Science & Sociology at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, addressed the La Salle community on the issue of welfare reform. She traced the development and expansion of welfare for poor women and children from the 1930s to the 1970s and then discussed the cutbacks that occurred with the 1996 welfare reform legislation.
