WEXP Radio WINS Professional Awards Competition
WEXP, La Salle University Radio, has won a very prestigious award from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) for their 2006 Excellence in Broadcasting Competition. The station won in the category of Best Coverage of a Local Sporting Event: Major Market for their January 21st coverage of La Salle Men’s Basketball vs. Saint Joseph’s at the Palestra.

Putting the win in perspective, WEXP will split the award with Merrill Reese and Mike Quick of 94.1 FREE-FM, for their coverage of the Philadelphia Eagles. The association will honor Junior Play-by-Play Broadcaster Adam Bagni, Sophomore Color Commentator Mike Petty, and Sophomore Sideline Reporter Andrew Neumann.

WEXP is completely student-run, and broadcasts nearly 100 live La Salle sporting events per academic year. That amount is likely more than any other college radio station in the country. Richard Wyckoff, President of the PAB, has noted that it is very rare for a student-run station to win an award in the professional competition.

Bagni and Petty will accept the award at a luncheon on Monday, May 22nd at noon in the Circular Dining Room of the Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA.
