Students in two beginning journalism classes of Huntly Collins, Assistant Professor of Communication, spent Friday morning, Jan. 30, at The Philadelphia Inquirer where they not only got a narrated tour of the newsroom, but also sat in on the morning news meeting. At the meeting, students listened as top editors discussed what stories were in the news and determined which ones were likely to make the front page the next day. After the news meeting, Bill Marimow, Inquirer editor and two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting, spoke to the students and answered questions. Brian Tierney, publisher of the both the Inquirer and Daily News, also addressed the students. Dr. Lynne Texter, chair of the Communication Department, accompanied Collins’ classes on this visit.
