Quinn's "The New Year's Parade" to Open at Two Local Theaters
Brother Gerry Molyneaux, F.S. C., Professor of Communication, announced this week that The New Year’s Parade written, directed, and produced by Tom Quinn,'98, will be shown this month at two local theaters: the Ambler on March 23 and the County on March 26. The film follows two South Philadelphia siblings (Greg Lyons and Jennifer Welsh) through the first year of their parents' divorce. The story is set against the backdrop of the Mummer's Parade, and would not have been possible without the Mummers themselves, especially The South Philadelphia String Band, who gave access to their club, costumes, and rehearsals for nearly three years. The film has won eight festival prizes including the grand jury prize at Slamdance, Best Director and Supporting Actress at Bend, and Best Acting Ensemble at Ashland. MovieMaker Magazine has listed Quinn in their "10 Young Writer-Directors to Watch" and Filmmaker Magazine has listed him in their "25 New Faces of Independent Film."
