Corinne Pinkerton, ’01

While at La Salle, Corinne worked for the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Philadelphia for two summers.  After completing her degree, Corinne went straight to graduate school at the University of New Hampshire where she earned a masters degree (MS) in Resource Administration and Management in 2003.   She is currently working as a Regional Economist for the National Marine Fisheries Service (federal government) in California and is pursuing an MA in economics at California State University – Long Beach.

Her comments on Economics and La Salle include the following:

Economics has allowed me to obtain my dream career – working in the environmental field as an economist. I've also had jobs not strictly in the economics field (i.e., land planner), so it is a versatile field of study.

I really enjoyed my time at La Salle. I made a lot of great lifelong friends, who I still keep in touch with. Also I am extremely glad I was a part of the economics program.  The department is small, so it is easy to know all of the students in the program, and all of the professors know you by name, whether you are in their class or not. I also respected all of the economics professors, because they set high standards for their students.  They want their students to actually learn something that will stay with them as opposed to sliding through a class and not gaining anything.  Also, the professors have been great since college with providing guidance and recommendations,, etc. Overall, going to La Salle and majoring in economics was a wonderful experience.

All of the faculty members are outstanding, to cite a few: I had Dr. Paulin for Econometrics and enjoyed that course. I’ve since had grad level econometrics courses and have used econometrics for my job. I took two international economics courses with Dr. Mshomba. Those classes were interesting and insightful, and I think having a professor as worldly as Dr. Mshomba allows the students to gain a different perspective on international issues. Dr. Robison was my advisor, and I took a few courses with him (micro and environmental). He relates class material very well and provided real world examples, which I think students always appreciate. He also was very helpful in suggesting what classes would prepare me for graduate school and has provided me post-college guidance, for which I am grateful.
