Flubacher Scholarship

Joseph F. Flubacher '35, Professor Emeritus of Economics, lived a life of total dedication to La Salle University. For over sixty years, he was active at the University as a student and a loyal alumnus, an administrator and professor, a fraternity brother, an architect of the Economics Department, a faculty leader and organizer of the Faculty Senate, an affiliate member of the Christian Brothers, and, in his retirement years, a Secretary to the Board of Trustees. To his colleagues, he was always a model of dedication to the intellectual, moral, and social development of his students. To his students, he was always a great teacher, a wise and prudent counselor, and a reliable friend.

The Flubacher Scholarship was established in 1996 by grateful and generous alumni, friends, faculty, and staff inspired by Dr. Joseph F. Flubacher's distinguished teaching and example. In its first year (1999/00), up to $15,000 was available to the successful applicant.

The Flubacher Scholarship is open to Economics (ECN) or Economics and International Studies (ECI) Majors of outstanding intellectual achievement to assist them financially in the final year(s) of their undergraduate studies at La Salle University. Flubacher Scholars must demonstrate financial need and give evidence of promoting the values of social and economic justice as laid down in the Papal Social Encyclicals to which Dr. Joseph F. Flubacher is so passionately devoted. Thus, to be considered for the scholarship, those interested in the ECN or ECI Majors must:

• Demonstrate financial need
• Have an overall grade point average of 3.4 or better
• Have a grade point average of 3.4 or better within the major
• Present evidence of community service and works promoting social justice while attending La Salle
• Show promise of advancing in her/his career the values of social and economic justice
