Laura Wuerth, ’05

Laura was a double major in Marketing and Economics while in the honors program.   She also served as a RA/CA while living on campus and interned with La Salle University’s Career Services program helping La Salle students prepare for life beyond college. She is currently working at Arcadia University while she completes on her Masters of Arts in Education with certification in mathematics and business. She plans to teach at the high school and university level in the future.

Her comments on Economics and the department include the following:

So many elements in the real world revolve around economic topics. I feel that my study of economics has enabled me to be more enlightened about the world around me and grasp how economics impacts so many facets of every person’s life.

The professors at La Salle University are extremely student-oriented. The Economics Department personnel have a real dedication to their students and a passion for economics. As a future teacher, I hope to be equally dedicated to my subject area and students.

All of my economics professors left an impression on me. In particular, Mark Ratkus’ economic seminar was invaluable, teaching me the importance of pertinent research and the freedom to explore interesting topics from an economic view. Dave Robison always offered real world examples and interesting personal insights that made economics more concrete and applicable to a changing world. I especially enjoyed Environmental Economics and would recommend it to any student.   Furthermore, my experiences with Dr. Paulin, Mr. Grady, and Dr. George encouraged me to declare economics as a second major.

Thank you to all the professors who gave me the personal attention and pushed me beyond my comfort zone.
