The La Salle University Secondary Education Program is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Upon successful completion of the Secondary Education program with a 3.0 minimum GPA requirement, passing scores on PAPA and Praxis tests, and an endorsement by the Education faculty, students are eligible for an Instructional I certificate in a 7-12 content area—or, if foreign language majors, in a K-12 language. Content areas include Biology, Chemistry, Communications, English, Earth Space and Science, History, and Mathematics. Foreign Languages include: French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
All certification candidates must take the state required PAPA and Praxis tests. Information about the tests and registration are available in the Education Department office located in Olney Hall, room 254. All PAPA and Praxis test scores should be reported to La Salle University. Students seeking certifications outside of Pennsylvania should consult the state's Department of Education Web site for certification tests and requirements.
Recommendations for taking the PAPA and Praxis tests are posted on the bulletin board in the Education wing in Olney Hall with updated test numbers and pass rates. Students should also consult with their Education advisers for testing information and the recommended test sequence:
- Completed by the end of the Sophomore Year: PAPA Reading, Writing, Mathematics

- Completed by the end of the Senior Year: Praxis II: Fundamental Subjects: Content Knowledge (Foreign Language majors only)
