Our Writer-in-Residence offers a course titled "Living Writers."
Students read novels by five nationally recognized writers such as Marcie Hirschmann
and Madison Smartt Bell, who read from their works and work in class with the
students.
Philadelphia poets and playwrights, such as national poetry
award winner Marcus Carfagno and award-winning playwright Michael Hollinger,
offer poetry and playwriting workshops in our continuing Writer's Series.
The English Department sponsors a playwriting series focused
on Philadelphia playwrights.
The Coffeehouse is a monthly event in which students read
from their own poetry or fiction, stage short plays and comic routines, and
perform live music.
The Grimoire, a literary magazine published twice-yearly by
students, showcases student fiction, poetry, and art. Annual awards are presented
for the best work in Grimoire.
Lambda Iota Tau (the English majors' group) sponsors poetry
readings, trips to plays, a Christmas party, and much more. |
