Though my doctoral dissertation focused on literary criticism, I taught at La Salle less than a year when I was assigned for the next thirty years to administrative posts (Dean, Provost and Corporation Vice President). I returned to full-time teaching in the early '90s and have continued to enjoy my La Salle years. In the post-'90 years, I have taught contemporary poetry, nineteenth and twentieth centuries American literature, and an introduction to poetry. In my courses, I emphasize the importance of writing, close reading of texts, and critical thinking. In the last decade, I have especially enjoyed leisure readings of essayists like H.L. Mencken, Joseph Epstein, and Martin Amis.

Other Professional Activity:
Several years ago, I edited three high school texts. followed by a few articles in professional journals and in Christian Brothers' publications. My professional life has also included membership in fifteen collegiate/university re-evaluation teams, seven of which I chaired. In this century, I have audited a summer class at UCLA and refresher courses during six additional summers at UC Berkeley.
