I have been trained as an Americanist, and my doctoral studies focused on African American literature, particularly women writers of the Harlem Renaissance. I have published two anthologies of African American women’s short stories collected from Opportunity and The Crisis magazines; a third anthology on African American men’s short stories from Opportunity is in progress. More recently, my research has expanded to include non-Western writers and texts, particularly Maori writers and writers from South Africa.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY:
I’ve published on contemporary American drama and fiction. In addition, I’ve presented papers on topics including the representation of Appalachia in literature and film, literature of slavery in Philadelphia, food in literature, and film representations of Japanese Canadian internment camps.
