Clinical Interests:
A systemic, strength-based, solution-focused MFT, I have enjoyed working with individuals, couples, families and groups across the lifespan for over twenty years in my private practice in Wyomissing, PA.
In addition to interactive teaching, my special interests include couples therapy, parenting skills, work stress, addiction disorders, divorce adjustment, anxiety management and sports and fitness psychology.
As a grief therapist, I have helped clients struggling with bereavement, loss, depression, infidelity, chronic illness and compassion fatigue.
My group experience includes providing in-patient, experiential group therapy in a drug and alcohol treatment center; psycho-educational caregiver groups for men whose wives have Alzheimer’s disease; and open-ended support groups for distressed adults after the 9/11 tragedies.
In my role as consultant and trainer, I have facilitated hundreds of stress management workshops, conflict resolution seminars and team-building retreats for corporate, governmental, educational, religious and human service groups of all sizes in the United States and Canada.
Research interests and opportunities for students:
My research interests are varied and reflect my clinical work and training business. For example, my dissertation examined how families cope with pediatric cancer and I continue to look for ways to build resiliency. I have published research on what makes a good marriage and family therapy training program and I still seek out helpful feedback from MFT students. I teach undergraduate courses for Penn State Berks on Positive Psychology and Well-Being and The Psychology of Adjustment and I remain intrigued by the ongoing research in these areas.
While not currently engaged in any academic research projects, I would welcome the opportunity to “brainstorm” any research design, data collection, and/or clinical application questions with interested graduate and undergraduate students.
