Brother Joseph Dougherty, F.S,C., Ph.D. has been a member of the American Society of Church History, the Catholic Academy of Liturgy, the College Theology Society, and the North American Academy of Liturgy. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Philadelphia Liturgical Institute, an ecumenical enterprise that began at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral. At the present, he is teaching English and Religion in the Republic of the Philippines, where his research has taken an anthropological turn: he is currently focusing on the significance of personal given names in Philippine culture
