March 1979 Committee established by James J. Muldoon, FSC, Ph.D., R.N., Dean of Arts and Sciences at La Salle University to evaluate the feasibility of an R.N.-BSN Program at La Salle University

October 1979 R.N.-BSN Program designed by Committee with adult learner focus for employed R.N.s; Needs assessment documented interest in program

July 1979 National League for Nursing (NLN) Consultant meets with Committee on program design and accreditation criteria

October 1979 Academic Affairs Committee of La Salle University approves R.N.-BSN Program; College Council approves program; Director of the Nursing Program appointed

September 1980 First group of 36 registered nurse students admitted to the Nursing major.

May 1982 First BSN degrees awarded by R.N.-BSN students

December 1982 National League for Nursing’s Council of Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs, Board of Review votes to defer the accreditation decision; Special Request Report sent to the Board of Review November 1983

December 1983 Board of Review of NLN-Council of Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs votes to deny accreditation

February 1983 La Salle Nursing Department appeals the accreditation decision; students join the appeal process

February 1984 NLN's Appeal Panel votes full accreditation to La Salle's Nursing Program on February 23, 1984

May 1985 Feasibility study conducted regarding Graduate Nursing degree program

September 1987 Following University and Nursing Program committee approval and Department of Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania review, the Master of Science in Nursing degree Program admits students to Nursing Administration and Adult Health and Illness Tracks

May 1989 First Master of Science in Nursing degree graduates

September 1990 Albert Einstein Medical Center and La Salle University, Department of Nursing, establish joint appointments

June 1991 La Salle Neighborhood Nursing Center opens at Manna Bible Institute site on Church Road; purpose to provide access to public health, primary care, counseling, and education services to underserved culturally diverse urban residents; many grant awards followed, for example, March of Dimes, William Penn Foundation, and Title V contract to support public health nursing and outreach workers from the City of Philadelphia, Department of Public Health, MateR.N.al-Child Health Division for Perinatal Home Visiting Services

April 1992 NLN notifies La Salle University that the baccalaureate degree program in nursing has been granted continuing accreditation and the master’s degree program in nursing has been granted initial accreditation

November 1992 State Board of Nursing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania grants initial approval status to Generic Baccalaureate Nursing Education Program

Fall 1992 Department of Nursing becomes School of Nursing

Fall 1993 La Salle University commits first floor space at the Chew and Wister site to La Salle Neighborhood Nursing Center; second site for public health and outreach services located on the third floor of the Germantown YWCA on Germantown Avenue
August 1994 Adult Nurse Practitioner MSN Track.

May 1995 BSN degree awarded to basic program, prelicensure graduates

December 1995 State Board of Nursing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania grants full approval status to Generic Baccalaureate Nursing Education Program

October 1996 Independence Foundation Chair in Community Health Nursing Education established

August 1997 BSN and MSN Programs receive full National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission re-accreditation along with preliminary approval from Council on Collegiate Nursing Education; Nursing courses offered at new Bucks County Center in Newtown, PA, Bucks County

June 1997 School Nurse Certificate Program receives Pennsylvania Department of Education approval

February 1998 Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education granted preliminary approval for the baccalaureate and master’s programs in nursing

April 1998 Kappa Delta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International chartered

May 1998 Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP) accredited by National Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurses Society Accreditation Committee

August 1998 BSN and MSN programs granted continuing accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; partnership agreement signed between the Frank J. ToR.N.etta School of Anesthesia at Montgomery Hospital and the La Salle University Graduate Nursing Program for MSN degree track, Nurse Anesthetist

September 1998 Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology identified as potential new degree program; Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certificate Program opened; At the invitation of the Tenant Council of the Hill Creek Apartments, a Philadelphia Housing Authority site, La Salle Neighborhood Nursing Center opens its primary care nurse practitioner center at Rising Sun and Adams Avenues

January 1999 LPN-BSN Program, the second such program in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, inaugurated; Clinical Research Operations Certificate Program (Pharmaceutical Development and Drug Trials) started

February 1999 Smith-Kline-Beecham Community Impact Award given to La Salle Neighborhood Nursing Center

April 1999 Following approval by School of Nursing Executive Committee, BSN and MSN Curriculum Committees, Graduate Council, and Curriculum, University Council approves M.S.degree program in Speech-Language Pathology

August 1999 Nurse Anesthetist Track, Graduate Nursing Program awards Division of Nursing, Health Resources Services Administration grant

January 2000 Nursing Informatics Certificate Program begins admitting students

August 2000 Freshman students admitted into the Five-year B.S. to M.S. SLHS Program

March 2000 Department of Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania grants Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program provisional approval

December 2000 Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) grants candidacy status to M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology
