Need writing advice but can’t get to the Sheekey Writing Center? Not to worry. We’ve got you covered. [Note: Students taking classes at the main campus must go to the Writing Center.]
To use the distance tutoring service, just follow these steps:
- Contact us at 215.951.1299 to alert us that you are using this service so we can take the appropriate steps on our end.
- Make two (2) appointments (each at least an hour long and both with the same tutor) for Distance Writing through TutorTrac.* The first session/appointment time allows the tutor to read over and comment on your work while the second session/appointment is the time when you call us at 215.951.5162 (our distance tutoring line) so that you and the tutor can discuss your paper.
- Using La Salle’s email, email the tutor with whom you have set up appointments to alert the tutor of the appointments and send the tutor the following.
- The assignment, course information, your instructor’s name, your contact information (phone number and email address), your student ID number, and as a Word attachment a copy of your paper (Please cc: Dr. Robertson at robertso@lasalle.edu)
.
- To ensure that you have two appointments with the same tutor, you may have to make appointments spaced apart or even on different days. When setting up appointments in TutorTrac, make sure that the tutor has an hour block of availability for each session. Available times may appear as 9:00-10:00 or 9:00-9:30 and 9:30-10:00. If the tutor’s time appears as 9:00-9:30 and 9:30-10:00, you will have to go through the appointment process twice (once for each half hour) to secure an hour appointment. Even if the time appears as 9:00-10:00, it will be necessary to go through the appointment process twice because TutorTrac will split the hour into half hour segments when the time is initially selected.
- Remember, if you have questions, just give us a call. Also, don’t be intimidated; this process is really easier than it sounds.
* * TutorTrac is accessed through mylasalle. Once in mylasalle, click on the Student Services tab and then click on “Click here” in the TutorTrac box. If you are unsure of how to use TutorTrac, there is an animated demo link in the TutorTrac box (http://www.lasalle.edu/tutortrac/stu_appnt.htm). When scheduling an appointment for Distance tutoring, choose Distance-(Writing) as the subject.
